Hiding in Your Carpet

Clean your carpet. The mantra of every carpet manufacturer and carpet cleaning company. Good maintenance isn’t just about preserving the look and the feel of the carpet in order to extend its lifespan, cleaning your carpet on a regular basis is meant to remove the germs and assorted contaminants that are living inside of it due to neglect.

Hiding in Your Carpet

That’s right. Living inside of it. You see, your carpet can become a breeding ground for all types of things that end up settling inside the pile of your carpet fibers. The only way to get them out completely is through routine vacuuming and a good deep cleaning once or twice a year. Without those simple efforts of maintenance, you are leaving your carpet vulnerable to a wide range of nasty and disgusting uninvited guests that are all too happy to call your house a home.

So, what kinds of guests and how nasty and disgusting? You may want to avoid eating anything while you read the rest of this article. Not only are some of these things really gross, they may already be inside of your carpet at this very moment. Many of them may sound yucky but they can also have a detrimental impact on the health of you and your family. If you’ve been putting off calling that littleton carpet cleaning company, now may be the time to do it.

  • 5. Bacterial Germs
  • 6. Mold

1. Dust Mites

There are all kinds of things living inside of your carpet. Some you can see, some you cannot. The latter of these things are called dust mites and while they are way too small to view with the naked eye, they are definitely there, feeding on the various particles and germs that are in your carpet. What’s particularly gross about these organisms is that they are leaving behind their own body parts and fecal matter inside your carpet.

When skin comes into contact with these types of contaminants, it could lead to some real problems. Dust mite droppings inside of an open sore or wound can cause some serious infections.

2. Creepy Crawlies

While dust mites are microscopic, there are other beings finding shelter inside of your carpet that you can see with your very own eyes. They will continue to reside and breed there if you keep neglecting the well-being of your carpeting. We’re talking about things like silverfish, fleas and ticks, bed bugs, and cockroaches. Feel like vacuuming the carpet now?

Don’t leave out the welcome mat to these pests. The sooner you give your flooring material a good deep cleaning, the faster you can eliminate all of the vermin and live with a clean, healthy carpet in your home.

3. Pet Dander

Homes with pets really need to take care of the carpet because your furry friends are leaving behind all kinds of icky things as they romp, run, sleep, and play. This includes dander, hair, and if you have a cat, litter granules that can get stuck to paws and fall off in between the fibers of the carpet. You don’t want any of this building up in your carpeting, it will make the material toxic before you know it.

4. Dead Skin

You and your pet are leaving behind dead skin cells in the carpet. When this stuff starts to accumulate, that can lead to bacteria and other viral contaminants developing in the fibers. The more of it you allow to get into the carpet, the more of it you will launch into the air each time you step on the surface. When those things become airborne you run the risk of inhaling them into your lungs, causing respiratory disorders and allergic reactions.

5. Bacterial Germs

A dirty carpet is a magnet for all kinds of awful stuff, including serious germs that can have a major negative impact on the health of you and your family. Salmonella and staphylococcus are just a couple of the dangerous germs that can get caught in your carpet, making your home a toxic environment and causing everyone who lives there to become very sick.

6. Mold

While salmonella and staphylococcus can be pretty bad, you run the risk of developing an even bigger and potentially more widespread problem in the form of mold. You know you have a moldy carpet from the smell, you might even find dark spots under the fibers. This can be an extremely toxic situation, one that might result in your removing the carpet from the home entirely.
