Right Time to Replace the Windows in Your Home

Every year children and adults should go to the doctor for a check-up and to receive important vaccinations as preventatives against the possibility of illness.  Just like you, your house also benefits from yearly check-ups. There are several systems that should be looked at by yourself or professionals who will know how to get ahead of problems while they are still small.

Look for Bugs

Bugs are everywhere, but the fewer we see in and around our property, the happier we tend to be. Once roaches and flies become an infestation, for example, you are most likely on the wrong side of the battle. It’s best to be proactive with pest extermination and termite inspections Staten Island NY. Keeping the creepy crawlies away from your house as much as possible to begin with is far preferable to trying to overcome a problem that has already happened.

Check the AC and Heater

It may not seem cost effective to service your air conditioner in the winter and your heater in the summer, but it makes the most sense to get these maintenance checks before disaster strikes. The reason air conditioners always seem to break down on the hottest day of the year is because that’s when they’re getting used the most. A good inspector will look at all your filters, the refrigerant levels, thermostat and condenser drain line among other things. He or she will do the same for your heater to keep you appropriately warm or cool.

Test the Safety Equipment

Hopefully, you will never need any of the safety systems in your house, but it’s always better to make sure they work just in case. Once a year, smoke detectors batteries need to be checked, and every 10 years the smoke detector itself needs to be replaced. Any fire extinguishers need to be tested as well. It doesn’t do any good to keep one under the sink if the retardant has gone bad.

Create a calendar, and each month, check one of your household systems. It’s always better to prevent a problem than encounter one.
