How To Use Lighting To Make Every Room In Your Home Look Bigger

If your property has some rooms which offer limited space, there is much that you can do with lighting which is going to help you give a more ample perception. The key to making anything appear larger is to get the combination right between light and dark, this is how our brains perceive space, based on the areas of lightness and darkness. The perfect option, therefore, when it comes to adding that sense of space, is to use lighting designs, and here is some idea for you to do just that.

Lighted Mirror For Bathrooms

A mirror is a great tool to use in the home in order to give the feeling of more space, but in the bathroom, we can take this one step further. Anyone who has purchased a lighted mirror from Clearlight Designs will tell you just what an impact this can make on low-lit and specially challenged bathrooms. The smart lighting delivers the illumination you need and the mirror works to reflect that light throughout the room. There is also a real sense of luxury to this kind of installation in your bathroom.

Spreading The Light

In order to give that feeling of bigger space, you really need to ensure that you spread the light around the room. If you only have a single-bulb ceiling light then the result is going to be a single, solitary pool of light, making the corners look darker and the space looks even smaller. Look to use table and floor lamps to further illuminate the room so that it feels more spacious.

Give The Perception of Height

Pendant lighting is a great option for living and dining areas and we can use a trick here to really make the place feel bigger. To give that perception of height use pendant lighting which hangs down at different levels. Three pendant bulbs at different lengths will certainly make your rooms feel far higher than they are.

Make A Large Lamp Statement

Some people wrongly believe that the addition of small lighting around the room is a great way to add the feeling of space, something we are not convinced by. The far better option is to make a large statement with an oversized lamp, perhaps hanging over the sofa in the living room. This gives the illusion that you have the space to play with, so much in fact that you can afford this kind of huge lamp.

Adding Space Using Glass

Use glass ornaments and lamp bases will help to project the light from lamps and bulbs so much further. This will again help you to make the room seem much bigger than it is. This works especially well in smaller bedrooms and study areas in the home.

As you can see, simply by switching up the lighting you can give the rooms in your home a much more spacious feeling, without having to go to great lengths.
