The First Mobile Phones

The first mobile phones were very small and resembled a pager. Then came the BlackBerry 7270, the world’s first smartphone with Wi-Fi and a colour display. The Apple iPhone was released in 2007 and changed the mobile phone industry forever. It was the first smartphone with a touchscreen interface and introduced millions of people to apps. It was also one of the most beautiful phones and started a new generation of sleek, fast phones for ever more demanding consumers. But as the years went by, these phones became more expensive.

In the late 1980s and 1990s, mobile phone use was not widespread and was mainly restricted to the business world. The first truly mobile phone was the Motorola DynaTAC 8000x, which was huge by today’s standards, but small enough for the average person to carry around. The handset quickly became a symbol for a “mobile life”. However, by today’s standards it was a brick. It took 10 hours for a full charge and then only offered 30 minutes of talk time! For a faster, more portable phone visit a Vodafone Store Ireland like King Communications

The Nokia 5210 was one of the most popular models of the time while the relatively unknown Benefon Esc! phone was the first mobile phone to use GPS. Other early models included the Sharp J-SH04 and the Kyocera VP-210 VisualPhone, which had a front-facing camera and a memory that could hold up to twenty photographs. Compared to the memory capability of today’s phone, that really wasn’t much at all!
