What Are Garage Doors?

Garages are a great way to store your car, bikes, and other items. They can also help keep you and your family safe in the event of a storm. Garages come in various shapes and sizes, but they all have one thing in common: a door.

The door on a garage is usually made of metal and is designed to keep the inside of the garage cool in the summer and warm in the winter. It’s also designed to keep rain and snow out of the garage. The door typically opens into a walkway that leads to the carport or garage area.

To keep your garage door functioning properly, it needs to be properly sealed. A sealant is a water-based product that can be used to coat the seams between the doors and the frame of the garage. The sealant dries quickly and forms a thin barrier against moisture and dust.

Most people use sealant to seal their garage doors every five years or so. There are two methods you can use to apply sealant: spraying it on or using a brush applicator. If you’re spray-applying it, make sure you’ve cleaned everything down before you start spraying so you don’t create a mess. If you’re using a brush applicator, clean off the garage door before starting the sealant.

Steps to Sealing Your Garage Door

Sealing a garage door is important for the security of your home and the peace of mind of knowing that it will stay closed in bad weather. The process is simple and can be done by anyone with a few basic tools. Here are the steps:

1. Locate the seals on either side of the garage door. They will usually be two circles of metal about an inch apart. Use a screwdriver to pop them out.

2. Open the door as wide as it will go, then use a putty knife to scrape off any loose paint or old sealant. Try to get all the sealant off so you can see the wood grain.

3. Pour a small amount of silicone sealant onto a foam roller and cover the entire surface of each door panel. Smooth out the sealant with your fingers so it is even and covers all the wood grain. Let it dry for at least an hour before closing the door again to ensure a good seal.

Helpful Tips to Get the Best Seal

Garage door seals can be an important piece of your home’s security and keeping your family warm in the cold weather. Here are some helpful tips to get the best seal on your garage door:

1. Choose the right type of sealant. There are a few different types of garage door seals and it is important to choose the one that is best suited for your specific needs. For example, if you have a heavy door, you may need a stronger sealant such as concrete or rubber.

2. Be sure to apply the sealant correctly. Apply the sealant evenly around the outside of the garage door and then press it into place with a brush or roller. Make sure to wait until the sealant has dried completely before closing or opening the garage door.

3. Inspect your sealant regularly. Once every six months, check to see if there is any damage or wear on the garage door sealant. If there is, replace the sealant as needed.

Conclusion

If you’re like most homeowners, you probably take care of your garage door every week. But what do you do if it starts to sag or get rough under the handle? Sealing your garage door is a great way to keep it in good condition and protect it from weathering and other damage.
