Myths to Unpack about Solar Energy

When considering the installation of solar panels in your home to help achieve energy self-sufficiency, ensure that you are able to separate fact from fiction.
Around 1 million homes in the UK now have solar panels installed as a means of having a guaranteed source of renewable energy. Maintenance, uncertainty about costs, and disruption are the top concerns people voice as a barrier to installation.

Myths

Planning permission is needed: Solar panels are a permitted development, so often planning permission is not needed, although exceptions may apply. If you are renting, you will need the landlord’s permission.

Installation is a lot of hassle: Most installations are completed within 1-2 days.

Installation is costly: Installation can mean a reduction in bills, an opportunity to sell back surplus energy to the grid, an increase in your home’s value, and a lifespan of around 25 years. A warranty usually covers any faults with the system. This means that you could recoup the costs of installation in no time.

Solar panels don’t work in winter: Whilst panels perform optimally in direct UV sunlight, the temperature has no bearing on their efficiency. Rain, cloud and even snow do not stop your solar panels from producing electricity.

Installers

An installer who is MSC certified demonstrates that they are committed to adhering to the latest industry standards and guarantees that they will install your system to a high quality. They can ensure minimum disruption, warranties on products, and advice on the placement and model of panels.
