How to choose the right boiler for your home

Does your old boiler need replacing? Do you want to make energy savings with one of the new energy-efficient boilers? It can be daunting knowing what model to choose, but if you ask yourself a few straightforward questions, you’ll make the right choice.

What type of boilers are there?

New boilers come in several styles to suit all central heating systems. The most common choices are:
– System boiler with a sealed hot water tank
– Heat-only boiler with one feed and one expansion tank
– Combi boiler that supplies heat and hot water in one compact and efficient unit
These can be mounted to the floor or wall, depending on space, and hidden away if required.

What do I want from my boiler?

At the top of most people’s list is value for money, but you should also consider energy-efficiency, which will make significant savings in the long run. You’ll also need to factor in installation costs as your new boiler must be fitted by a Gas Safe installer and will have to meet new building regulations. For households in Gloucestershire a Plumber Gloucester Company like HPR is a good way to keep costs under control.

How much hot water do you need?

The general rule of thumb is that if you have a smaller house with one bathroom, a combi boiler is the ideal choice. For larger homes with more bathrooms or where water pressure is low, a system boiler may be a better choice. However, the new breed of larger combi boilers is capable of effortlessly heating larger properties with multiple bathrooms.

What size boiler will I need?

The size of the boiler you need is dictated by several factors, including the hot water and heating capabilities your home needs and the space available for installation. Never opt for an oversized boiler because you think it’ll make short work of heating your home more quickly; any excess heat your boiler provides will go straight up the flue, wasting energy and money.

Do I need to buy a well-known brand?

Brand-name boilers have been proven to be more reliable through intensive testing by consumer groups. These boilers have proven reliability and build quality and will be familiar to your gas engineer. Shop around for special deals and offers to get the best bargains.
