How to create an industrial-style kitchen

Hny5rft September 30, 2017 Reviews Leave a Comment

Your industrial kitchen needs to be functional and stylish. If you are planning an industrial-style kitchen, you have a great range of materials to choose from; for example, you could go for a classic look with dark units, exposed brickwork and glass complemented by metal saucepans and appliances, perhaps adding copper and metallic elements to contrast with the metallic silvers.

Getting the layout right

When planning your kitchen, you need to work out where everything should go for maximum efficiency. The prepping area and work surfaces for chopping and preparing need to be near the stove and cooker. The fridges should also be within easy access, although freezers can be further away.

Finding the right combination

Stainless steel obviously creates an industrial vibe; however, you can mix and match to add to the decor. Lighting could be made from black steel, copper or brass, for example, while reclaimed wood will make an attractive feature for your kitchen island or work surfaces. These wooden worktops add warmth and character to the kitchen. Dark woods, such as cherry and walnut, will age nicely as the colours become deeper over the years.

Show it off

One key element of industrial kitchens is to have everything out in the open. The crockery, utensils and equipment can all be on display. This can look really impressive, with rows of gleaming glasses and crockery on show. An effective way to display the equipment is by putting them on open shelves. In this way, they are easy to grab when you need them – no opening shelves or drawers! For industrial shelving Ireland, see what is on offer from specialists such as http://www.rackzone.ie/.

Tapping into sinks

The obvious choice of sink for an industrial kitchen must be a stainless steel one. These are hardwearing and attractive, with the metallic look fitting the overall style. You can add a modern twist with the taps, such as spring neck taps with extendable spouts or a spray head for rinsing food.

Think big

Black and chrome look lovely in an industrial-style kitchen. You could invest in a large American-style fridge freezer for storing foods that you use every day. A range cooker is ideal for enabling you to cook several things at once, with multiple hobs to sauté, boil or steam, while a double oven is great for baking and roasting.
