Reinforce Your Fence

In most cases, fences are built for security and privacy. However, it can dawn to you that the fence is not secure enough at all. However, with some easy ideas, you can protect your home and increase privacy by reinforcing your fence. Below are some of the tips you can use to reinforce your fence to better standards.

Table of Contents

  • Anti-Climbing Spikes
  • Increase the Height of Your Fence
  • Face the Rough Side Inside
  • Add Some Thorny Vegetation
  • Anti-Climb Paint
  • Add Some Monitoring Cameras and Lights

Anti-Climbing Spikes

While many people may think that anti-climbing spikes are used to injure, they come in handy in deterring an intruder. These spikes are quite uncomfortable and comprise of a spiked metal that spans across your fence top. When an intruder tries to climb your fence, it will be tough to get at the top without hurting themselves. As such, it discourages them from climbing your fence.

It is wise to confirm if anti-climbing spikes are allowed in your area. This is because things like barbed wires can seriously injure an intruder compared to anti-climbing spikes. It is also essential to check with your fencing company on what spikes are recommended for use. If you feel that the spikes may not be your preference, you can use rolling bars. This is because they neither cause injury nor have spikes. However, they roll if one tries to climb your fence, making it difficult for them to climb.

Increase the Height of Your Fence

If you make your fence look taller, it will be hard for an intruder to get to the top while accessing your compound. In many homes, fences are 4-feet tall. However, a tall fence that ensures security and privacy for your home should be 6-feet tall and above. If you want to go any higher, you must confirm with your city regulations regarding how tall you can reinforce your fence. Besides, you should be prepared as you will need a permit to reinforce your fence higher than the average size. Moreover, you need to understand that every extra foot makes it hard to scale your fence.

Face the Rough Side Inside

In some homes, the rough side of the fence is on the outside, leaving beauty on the inner side. However, if you would like to reinforce your fence and overlook the beauty, you should make your rough side face inside. Placing your rough side on your inside keeps off intruders from climbing your home using brackets and posts. As such, sacrificing your interior beauty will come in handy to improve your privacy and security. On a brighter note, the outside look of your home will be more appealing. However, it does not mean that intruders will not be able to climb your fence. Instead, it makes it harder for them.

Add Some Thorny Vegetation

If you are reinforcing your fence on a shoe-string budget, it is wise that you add thorny plants. It is not hard to get thorny plants, and it makes the mission easier. Thorny vegetation outside your fence adds another barrier. Apart from the thorny environment preventing someone from climbing in your yard, it makes it stylish in some way. For instance, if you use plants such as roses, landscaping is going to be easy for you making your fence look more appealing.

Anti-Climb Paint

Anti-climb paint is mainly used on top of your fence and poles, reinforcing them. Using it is a great plus as it never dries. It remains sticky and slippery. Therefore, if an intruder tries to climb your fence, they slide right off. While reinforcing your home, an anti-climb paint is recommended as it has been used before by private individuals and governments. Besides, it is more advisable to use this paint at the top of the fence to avoid rubbing off people who just want to lean on your fence. If you are going to use it on your fence sides, make sure that you install a signposting a warning about the paint.

Add Some Monitoring Cameras and Lights

By mounting a camera on your fence, an intruder will be discouraged from climbing it. This is because most intruders look for easy targets, and if your home is not under surveillance, you are likely to be a victim. Conversely, lights such as floodlights come in handy. You can install motion detection lights that abruptly turn on when someone approaches your fence. This method is convenient not only for you but quite startling for intruders.

There are many ways of reinforcing your fence and the above are some essential tips. Feel free to employ them for better security and privacy. Besides, you can consult with security fence Brisbane for these and other methods of reinforcing your fence.
