What to consider when choosing between sliding and hinged wardrobe doors

There may be many factors to consider when choosing bedroom furniture, but when it comes to your wardrobes, a major one is whether to have hinged or sliding doors. By considering the advantages and disadvantages of each, you can choose the right doors for you.

Hinged wardrobe doors

Also known as swing doors, hinged wardrobe doors are the traditional style, where the doors open outwards. This will give you access to the entire wardrobe, allowing you a good view of everything inside. There is a wide choice in design styles, which can include internal door storage such as hooks or even small shelves, giving you even more storage space. It is also a useful space for a mirror.

When sourcing replacement wardrobe doors, hinged doors tend to be the more affordable option. It is also easier to find the replacement wardrobe doors in your chosen style.

However, bear in mind that hinged doors require space to open, so may not be so convenient in smaller bedrooms.

Sliding doors

Sliding doors have a sleek, modern appearance. They require no clearance space, so are ideal for smaller bedrooms. Available in a variety of finishes, including wood, glass, and mirror, sliding doors can span wide openings without looking too bulky. They usually have a smooth mechanism for quiet opening and closing.

As sliding doors typically slide behind the other one to open, this means that you are only able to see half of the interior at any one time, which can make it harder to find specific items.
