After construction, three essential phases must be considered: rough cleaning, light cleaning, and touch-up cleaning. These phases allow you to transform the area into a fully functional space. The touch-up cleaning phase includes a final dust-free walk-through and removing any smudges and fingerprints from surfaces. It can be performed a week or more after the light cleaning.

Clean Cabinets

It is time to tackle the cabinets once the floors and walls have been cleaned. Use a mild cleaning solution or water to wipe down all surfaces of your cabinets and drawers. Make sure to remove any stains or marks that have occurred during the construction process. If your cabinet doors are wood, alternative materials like Thermofused Melamine (TFL), Laminate, or melamine, be very careful when using abrasives or lacquer thinners, as these can cause irreparable damage. It is also a good idea to avoid hanging wet cloths over cabinets, as the moisture will eventually seep into the hinges and cause rust or rot.

Clean Vents and Grates

During construction, dust and dirt particles enter every home or office crevice. If they are not removed, these pollutants can contaminate the indoor air. It can cause immediate health problems, as well as long-term ones. Cleaning your air vents is a simple but effective way to remove these contaminants. Start by removing the covers and cleaning the surfaces with a damp cloth. Once they are dry, replace the grates and return them to the wall. It would help if you also cleaned any exhaust fans or range hoods in the kitchen using a disinfectant cleaner.

Sweep and Dust

After completing a project, you need to sweep and dust the area. The major cleaning stage will eliminate most of the dirt and debris. Once sweeping is done, use a microfiber cloth to dust surfaces and furniture. It will remove any fine dust that remains on the surfaces. Then, clean all windows, door frames, ceiling fans, and light fixtures. After this, it is a good idea to open the windows in each room to allow fresh air to circulate throughout the space.

Wash Windows

The windows are the “eyes” of your home, and if they’re covered with stains, dust, or other remnants of your project, guests will not have the best first impression of your property. Like the rest of your home, drywall mud, paint, and other abrasive materials can be affected by windows and must be thoroughly cleaned. Start by scrubbing the window surfaces with a sponge or scrubber dampened in the cleaning solution and rinsing frequently. Next, wipe the window frames and grids with a lint-free cloth before washing the glass surface.

Clean Tables and Chairs

When you’ve finished the rough and detailed clean phases, it’s time to start cleaning the surfaces of tables, chairs, mantelpieces, etc. During construction, these items are exposed to dust particles that can cause scratching or find their way into the small gaps and crevices. Wipe down each surface using a soft duster and a mild cleaning solution. Remember to pay special attention to hinges, where painters tend to hit their brushes. Vacuum Carpets

Vacuuming is one of the most important things you can do to keep your carpets healthy and looking great. Most of what gets tracked into carpet is dry particulate soil and abrasives like sand. Vacuuming these dirt particles will help protect the carpet’s life and improve indoor air quality. Using a doormat in your entryway will help you save a lot of this contamination from getting into your house, and acting quickly on any stains is the best way to minimize them, leaving lasting color marks. You can also use EPA-List N disinfectants to sanitize your carpets.
