How Your Septic System Works

Hny5rft May 09, 2018 Reviews Leave a Comment

When it comes to your septic tank, you want to take as much care of it as possible. A little bit of prevention goes a long way towards saving money on expensive repairs. Here are a few tips you can use to prevent severe damage to your septic system, and to avoid minor nuisances that may come about due to the day-to-day use of the system.

Keep heavy objects away from the tank.

Septic tanks are not designed to support a huge amount of weight. You should always avoid parking a vehicle on top of the septic tank, and in general it is better to avoid vigorous outdoor activity in the area of the septic tank. For many people, the area above the tank is a perfect place for a flower bed. Plants above the septic tank tend to grow more quickly and bloom more often.

Avoid flushing material that do not degrade.

If a material does not break down over time, it should not go in your septic tank. Plastics, certain types paper, and other materials that either will not degrade over time or will take years to degrade can cause severe damage to your septic tank. Avoid flushing these items.

Do not use a garbage disposal.

If you have a septic tank, do not install a garbage disposal. A garbage disposal can clog the drain field and uses far more wastewater. If you install a garbage disposal, you will need to have your septic tank pumped more often, as much as once per year. Even if you take the steps, it will have an effect on the lifespan of your septic tank.

Even the most conscientious person will eventually need a septic cleaning, so if you find yourself in need of septic pumping Orlando, make the right choice and call a company that will get the job done quickly and with as little messes possible.
