Is there pet friendly flooring available?

Animals can be a wonderful addition to the family, with their eternal cheerfulness and happiness to see their owners. However, they do have paws and claws that can scratch, along with coats that moult, so there are a few things to consider when choosing flooring especially if it’s in your rental property.  Although the landlord or estate will probably have a Property inspection app that they use to check move in and me out dates, quality of accommodation before and after.  If they don’t have this then maybe visiting sites like https://propertyinspect.com/ would be a good idea.  It will save time, money and effectiveness.

Considering carpet

Lifestyle is an important factor to consider when choosing flooring, especially when pets are involved. Carpet is not as popular as it once was, and one reason for this is that it can aggravate allergies. With pets, the combination of carpet fibres, fallen pet hair and dead skin could exacerbate asthma. Pets occasionally have accidents too, and carpets can be difficult to keep clean after this type of mishap. If carpet is a must, the best type to mix with pets is one made of polyester and nylon. There are also more pet friendly carpets available now, which combine man-made stain resistant and durable materials with a design that resists fluids soaking through, which could damage the underlay. Carpet will require constant vigilance to keep clean.

This report from The Guardian details all the microbes, fungi and bacteria that can thrive in house dust, and what pets can contribute to this.

Tiles and vinyl

These options are easy to clean, although as tiles are very hard, anything you drop on them is likely to smash instantly. Tiles and vinyl can also be cold to walk on and be rather slippery for dogs. Pets slipping or falling on tiled floors could mean expensive vet bills.

Timeless wood

Wood not only looks wonderful, but is generally quite easy to clean and pet friendly. It is especially good for homes that are shared with particularly hairy or furry beasts. Hardwood is elegant, although it can present issues if it gets wet, which could mean costly replacement. Engineered wood flooring, made of wood layers joined together, looks great and is extremely durable. Also, it allows the option of installing underfloor heating, which pets will love.

Maintenance, comfort and appearance are all critical when it comes to flooring choice. Today, most of us are very busy and want flooring that is low maintenance, looks good and allows pets and humans to live in harmony.
