Which Wood for Your House?

Hardwood flooring is one of the most popular flooring types. It looks great and is extremely durable. However, it is not only about choosing hardwood over other floors, there are also different types of solid woods among which you must choose. This can sound a bit confusing, especially if you don’t buy floors often. But fear not! This post explains the three most popular wood species and their benefits.

Oak

This is the most common and popular solid wood you can find on the market. Classic and stylish, you can’t go wrong with oak. In the range of hardwood floorings, it is the most affordable, very versatile and of course with a long lifespan, and actually gets better with the age. When choosing oak, you can choose among different grades, depending on if you are more into rustic or a more modern and pure style. You can also choose between lots of shades. In addition, it is quite easy to refinish and sand if you want to make your floor look fresh again after times passes.

Walnut

While oak is a classic, walnut is a symbol of sophistication. Walnut is perfect if you look to make a statement and you want to show you know what you are doing interior design-wise. Again, walnut is very durable, and is actually the hardest wood you can find. While oak is considered the most affordable wood, walnut is usually more expensive. When it comes to shades, walnut tends to be darker, so it is perfect when you are looking to create an atmosphere, and you want to make your place look glamorous and sophisticated. Being darker, walnut is perfect for larger rooms, as smaller ones work better with lighter woods that allow to open up the space. Its smooth appearance uses close grain to match, meaning that it will look less rustic and more uniform and tidy compared to other woods.

Bamboo

Whereas the previous woods can be chosen because of their aesthetics attributes, bamboo is not only about that. The popularity of bamboo is due to the fact that we are much more environmentally conscious than before – bamboo is a very sustainable material due to the fact that is able to quickly regenerate itself. Faster regeneration and growth means less deforestation. Even though bamboo is not actually a wood, but grass, it is manufactured to look like wood. In addition, bamboo flooring is very practical and family friendly, as it is much more water resistant and easy to clean. However, scratches are more likely to occur as well as discolouration – but this easily solved by sanding the floor from time to time as well as sweeping and vacuuming regularly.

As you can see, there is a floor suitable for every situation. You only need to choose your favourite and of course one that you know will work properly for the situation you have at your place.
