5 Basic Home Maintenance Tips

Russell Dawson July 18, 2020 Home Improvement Leave a Comment

Cleaning your home on a daily basis probably involves vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, and other chores. However, maintaining the exterior of your home is also an important part of ensuring your house is in good condition for the future. Here are some basic steps to get started.

Table of Contents

  • 1. Maintain Your Roof
  • 2. Wash The Patio
  • 3. Clean The Gutters
  • 4. Scrub Your Home’s Siding
  • 5. Seal The Cracks

1. Maintain Your Roof

It is generally a good idea to take water stains or ceiling leaks as a sign that your roof is damaged. Having your roof regularly inspected is an easy way to maintain your roof and preemptively repair any damage before it becomes extensive. You will eventually have to replace your roof but you can do so with the help of an entire professional team, such as project managers Freedom CA.

2. Wash The Patio

Consider pressure washing your patio once a year to remove residual dust and dirt. Additionally, sweeping your patio or deck before pressure washing can help give your home’s exterior a deeper clean.

3. Clean The Gutters

Gutters prevent rainwater from damaging your roof but they tend to clog up with leaves and dirt. Putting in the effort to unclog your gutters once or twice a year can make a dramatic difference in the upkeep of your roof, home siding, and foundation.

4. Scrub Your Home’s Siding

The simplest step to keeping your house externally clean is washing your home’s siding. Most siding materials can be cleaned using a basic soapy water solution and a brush. Simply scrub the dirt and debris away, hose the siding, and you are done!

5. Seal The Cracks

This is not only an important step for maintaining your home’s exterior, but also for preventing insect infestations and mold. Simply by walking around the outside of your house, you should be able to see if there are any cracks or signs of damage. Caulk and cement are particularly useful for patching up these cracks.

Long-term maintenance is as important in keeping your home looking good as basic chores. Following these fundamental tips will maintain your home’s upkeep for years to come.
