Are Ceiling Fans Outdated?

Hny5rft October 05, 2022 Reviews Leave a Comment

Have ceiling fans gone out of style? No, of course not! Ceiling fans are really too useful to ever go out of style. They remain one of the most popular energy-friendly updates you can make to a home.

And these days, you have so many more fan design options than previous generations did. That’s not to say that traditional, ornate ceiling fan designs aren’t making a comeback, because they are – but today’s ceiling fan trends also emphasize wood and metallic finishes, glass and crystal, and lots of features.

Traditional Ornate Ceiling Fans Are Making a Comeback

The old-fashioned, ornate style of ceiling fan like Grandma and Grandpa had is coming back in style, so make room in your heart for all that brass and all those glass shades. The return to the classic ceiling fan look falls in line with a general preference for vintage designs. A traditional ceiling fan, with its warm wooden blades and rattan, will blend well with vintage decorating staples like floral wallpaper and Parisian decorating touches.

Ceiling Fans with Lights Are Getting More Elaborate

If you’re shopping for a ceiling fan with lights, you’re going to be spoiled for choice. If you don’t like the aptly named boob lights in your home, you can replace them with a ceiling fan with the light fixture of your choice. You can get a ceiling fan with a chandelier, with a single light bulb, or with a cluster of three or four bulbs.

Metallic and Wood Finishes Are In

Sustainability is in focus this year, and that means a return to natural finishes and recycled materials. Sleek brass and chrome finishes, as well as flat black and white finishes, will be receding in favor of the warm, rich patinas of weathered bronze, brass, and other recycled metals. You can also expect to see more wooden fans in warm, earthy tones.

Natural Shapes Bring the Outdoors Indoors

Blocky fan blades and sharp lines are going out of style as homeowners move towards more natural, organic shapes in their decorating. Curved furniture is super trendy right now, as more people prioritize comfort and calm in their homes. A ceiling fan with curved blades will complement a home decor based on curves and swoops instead of straight lines and corners. Choose a palm leaf ceiling fan for a look that marries the natural world to the indoor space and really offset your collection of house plants.

Glass Makes an Art Deco Statement

Clear and translucent fan blades are having a moment, and it’s a moment in which they’re complementing a full range of vintage decors. Crystal and glass fan blades bring some of the glitz and glamor of the Belle Époque to your living room. Fans with clear blades and glittering chandelier light fixtures bring an Art Deco to spaces decorated in a Parisian style. Glass ceiling fan blades also fit in well with vintage decorating styles from the 70s and 90s.

Everyone Wants More Features

Traditionally, a ceiling fan had limited features – a pull chain to control the light and fan blades, a few speed settings on the fan, and a reverse motor switch on the fan body. If you got a fan with a dimmer setting on the lights, that was fancy.

But today’s fans have so much more to offer in the way of features. You can get ceiling fans with dimmable lights. You can get smart ceiling fans that connect to your smartphone or smart home device for ease of control. You can get ceiling fans with wireless wall controls that don’t require you to wire up a whole new control panel for your fan. You can get fans with remote controls. You can get fans with powerful DC motors and fans rated for use in wet or damp conditions.

All of these features can make your fans easier to use. A remote control, wall control, or smart control option means you won’t have to fumble for the hanging chain in a dark room or a room with a high ceiling. You could even turn your fan on and off while you’re away from home, for example, if you need to keep your pets cool during the day.

Ceiling fans are not outdated – far from it. Ceiling fans remain as popular as ever, because they’re a cheap, sustainable way to stay comfortable even in the hottest temperatures. Install your own stylish ceiling fans today, and find out why most homeowners will never give them up!
