Guide to Choosing the Right Window Treatments

Hny5rft August 15, 2017 Decorating Leave a Comment

Picking the right window treatments isn’t rocket science. It’s actually pretty simple, you just need to consider what it is that you need them to accomplish. Are they intended for privacy, appearance, or to keep the sunlight out of the room. The good news is that you can achieve all of these things with one treatment, but be careful, window treatments can get quite expensive. So, another way to help you decide which window treatments are right for you is by setting a budget before you go shopping. Depending on the type you select, you may need to budget for professional installation as well. Choosing your treatments is just as important as choosing windows and you can check our website for more options when it comes to finding the right windows for your home.

Blinds

They are a fully functional option for windows that are often the most economical choice if not the most desirable when it comes to aesthetics. Sure, you can find good looking blinds that are made of wood or metal but most consumers who go with blinds choose vinyl because it’s usually the cheapest option. They’re easy to install and operate, just drill some holes, screw in the brackets and attach the blinds. You can open and close them and even turn the slats to provide you with complete privacy, though they’re not going to eliminate sunlight 100%. You’ll still get some light filtering through the slats.

Shutters

Depending upon the type of shutters you select, you’ll notice some similarities to blinds in that many kinds of shutters also have slats that can be opened and shut for privacy. Shutters can get pretty expensive since they usually need to be fitted to your windows and installed by a professional company. But they are a great choice for beautifying the exterior of the home and prove to be as stylish as they are functional. You get the best of both worlds here even if you may need to pay more.

Shades

You can find a number of different types of shades, each one useful for certain purposes. There are roller shades which unfurl from a valance housing above the window, Roman shades which look similar to drapes, and cellular shades that are excellent for bringing energy efficiency to your windows because they offer additional insulation to your windows. The cost of shades can vary based on the type you choose since materials and sizes can vary. But you can probably expect to pay a little more than you might for shades but less than you would shutters.

Curtains

This option offers a wide variety of choices. Curtains are going to require you to make some decisions as to the type of material you want, the thickness, and length. Many consumers will measure their windows and then go to the store and pick up panels and a curtain rod for installation. But some choose to get custom curtains that are properly sized so that they are the ideal length for your window, which can get far more expensive. But when you pick your panels, be sure to find materials that are resilient to direct sunlight as they can fade over time from prolonged exposure.
