With the arrival of the warm season, spending warm evenings outside on a comfortable sofa, or maybe on a swing, in the company of friends and relatives is truly something wonderful. However, it may happen that the soft seat cushions, which you have left aside for all this harsh winter, have been affected by some mold. This inconvenience can happen, as the pillow is constantly in contact with our skin, our sweat and atmospheric agents and if it has not been properly sanitized before being stored it may present some mold. Don’t worry, because with this guide we will see how to clean molding from your outdoor cushions by applying one of the 3 methods you find below.

Hydrogen peroxide and coarse salt

This mixture is very effective against mold since the hydrogen peroxide detaches it from the fibers without damaging them and the salt burns the mold, which we remember is always a species of mushroom and therefore fears salt. The procedure is very simple: wet the affected area with hydrogen peroxide and leave to act. Then, without rinsing, throw coarse salt on the pillow and finally pass everything in boiling water. Obviously, given the ease of finding the necessary as objects of common use in any home, this option is also very practical and above all very cheap.

Bleach and scottex

This is another easy, fast and inexpensive method: spread the pillow on a surface, take the scottex paper (white I recommend otherwise the color will settle on the pillow) and soak the bleached paper. Apply the sheets of scottex on the pillow and leave for a good half hour, replacing if necessary the tissues of scottex. After the procedure, rinse thoroughly in hot water and the mold with its stains should be gone.

Washing machine, bleach and detergent

This method is the most complicated and most expensive of all but it should be the most effective against stubborn stains. If your outdoor cushion is small, simply put it in the washing machine (without mixing it with other items and paying attention to the maximum washing temperature indicated on the cushion itself) and start a bleach-based wash, however pretreating the stain with a good detergent degreaser for dishes. After washing, which must be done at a minimum of 60 ° and with a maximum spin at 800 rpm (a faster spin could ruin the pillow) your pillow should be returned as new.
