Sliding furniture could potentially lead to scrapes, scratches, and other marks on your hardwood flooring. Fortunately, there are several different ways to stop furniture from sliding on your hardwood flooring. Below are different ways to keep furniture from sliding on wood floors:
1. Furniture feet
This option will most likely last as long as your couch does. If you’re looking for something that you can maintain for a long time, you should definitely look into purchasing some furniture feet. While they can be a bit more expensive than some of the other options on this list, they also work very well.
Basically, what you do with furniture feet is actually screw them into the legs of your couch, chair, and other pieces. Since these pieces are screwed in, they’re not going to fall off. As such, you should be able to get a lot of use out of them.
2. Drawer liners
You know those rubbery drawer liners that people have in their drawers and cupboards for plates and silverware to rest on? Well, these actually make handy slip-stoppers if you’re into DIY projects. Simply take a new drawer liner and cut it up into pieces that fit under the feet of your furniture. Use some hardwood floor-friendly glue or tape to adhere the drawer liner pieces to the bottom of your furniture, and you should be good to go!
3. Rubber balloons
This is another DIY option that could have some great results for you. Purchase a few rubber balloons (or several, depending on how much furniture you have to slip-proof). Then, repeat the same steps that you would to convert the drawer liner into a slip-stopper. Make sure that you use an adhesive that won’t ruin your beautiful hardwood floor.
4. Rubber pads
There are many places at which you can purchase rubber pads. They can be quite economical, popular, and easy to use. Installing them is pretty simple. Just purchase the correct size and then follow the instructions to slip them onto the ends of your furniture legs. Slipping should stop at once!
5. Stop blocks
Have you ever sat back on your couch with a sigh of contentment and then felt it slip backwards? This is an annoying tendency that some couches have when placed on a hardwood floor, especially if you’re the type who loves to crash backwards into your favorite comfy couch. In order to circumnavigate this difficulty, you could try installing stop blocks behind your couch. These handy items can either be purchased at a store or made at home.
If you’d like to try your hand at making the blocks yourself, you’ll need to trace out the backs of your couch legs. Then, make wooden blocks that are the same size and thick enough to fill in the gap between the back of your couch and the wall. The next time you fall back onto your couch, there shouldn’t be any awful sliding.
6. Rugs
Do you want the slipping to stop, but you also want to keep your hardwood floors? Well, then why not invest in an area rug? This will allow you to display your hardwood floor, while also keeping furniture stable.
A rug can add extra color, drama, and style to your room. Buy one that’s informed by the colors, decor, and the style of the room, either by complementing those elements or contrasting them. Plus, you and your guests might enjoy having a respite from colder floors during the wintertime.
7. Furniture grippers
Put furniture grippers on the bottom of your furniture legs and have your rooms turn into slip-free zones in no time. Again, you can probably pick up furniture grippers at any home hardware store, so that’s convenient. Try to get grippers that are the perfect size for your furniture feet so that guests don’t easily see the grippers. It may be a little thing, but those details can add up to make a room look amazing.
