What Size AC do I need for my Garage?

A garage is a big place than a bedroom. For this, we need a larger air conditioner. If your garage covers 3 cars. The garage is 30 feet wide by 30 feet deep. A 900 square foot space garage requires a 12000 to 13000 BTU air conditioner. To calculate BTU you can use BTU Calculator it is very easy to use, so don’t worry.

Developed Garage Air Conditioner Efficiency

Sometimes air conditioner isn’t efficient because of the door, ceiling, wall, window, lack of insulation, etc.

Garage door

The door is an important thing in a room or garage. It absorbs a huge amount of heat the whole day. If you want to reduce it you can cover your doors with insulation foam or you can apply standard batt insulation.

Floor

if your garage is built on a slab, that means it does not insulate, and it is the big killer of your energy. So don’t waste your time now cover it with carpet or something like that.

Walls

It is a huge amount of volume of surface which also big source of consuming energy. If you insulate it you can reduce a lion’s share percentage of wasting energy.

Windows

A garage is also one kind of room that’s why having windows is a common matter. Windows is also a factor for the ups and downs of room temperature. Most of the heat comes into the room by windows and if window glass is transparent then sunlight comes into and creates a greenhouse. As a result, the temperature increases the air conditioner can’t cool the room. To prevent this, you need to cover the windows with nontransparent materials.

Ceiling

From the morning to evening the whole day sunlight hit on the roof. So the ceiling becomes warmer than the other parts garage. For this, the ceiling needs extra care. To prevent heat generation from the ceiling and your bill you have to insulate it.

Type of Garage Air Conditioner

There are different types of air conditioners. Here is a list of the garage air conditioners with a description. Chose which one is perfect for your garage.

Window Air Conditioner

It is easy to install because most of the garage has at least one window. If you don’t have any windows then chose an unfinished wall. A window air conditioner is cheap than the other and it is effective. Here are some best window ac brands: LG, GE, Haier, Frigidaire.

Portable Air Conditioner

This type of air conditioner is effective when you have to use an air conditioner for one more room or different places. It is less effective and less efficient than others types of AC. If you want to move it from one place to another place you need a vehicle and a portable air condition needs a connection to the outside. A portable air conditioner required space on the floor and has to be vented out a window.

Ductless Air Conditioner (mini-split):

This type of air conditioner looks like a central air conditioner. It has a heat exchanger positioned outside of the room, that lines are connected through the wall and carry some special cold fluid which absorb the heat from the air.

Exhaust Fan

If the outside temperature is awesome. But your room has no ventilation system that’s why warm air is stuck in the room. That time exhaust fan will be a great suggestion. The exhaust fan is cheap than the other system and its installation system is so easy. It consumes less electricity than the other system which helps you to reduce the bill.
