Clear gutters

You home gutters catch rain water and stops it from reaching your house. They keep you safe from the flood but these gutters need clearing during rainy season. Because the debris or the ice might get clogged in the gutters and stop it from doing its job properly.  So occasionally, get out and clean up the gutters by spraying hose through them from the bottom up or you can use a trowel to scoop out anything that is clogging your gutters or you can contact Sydney roofing and gutters to do the job for you.

Check for leakage

Before the rainy season starts take a tour around the house and look for any signs of leakage. Don’t be lazy it might end up becoming a bigger problem if not taken care of before the rain pours through the leaks.

Scan you ceilings for water marks or find some peeling paint. Also take a look from the outside of the house. Look for any signs of trouble, check the corners and look for any cracks. Any damage to the roof or the wall can allow water to enter the home so look carefully and get it sealed or repaired.

Seal windows and doors

Make sur the doors are closed properly behind you and the windows are properly sealed because even the gap that you can’t even see can cause the water to come in. and if the windows are new you don’t have to worry about it then but if they are old, you should definitely inspect them because if the windows keep the house safe from the outside elements it also improves energy efficiency as the house will be heated or cooled down quickly.

Also rain water can cause the doors to swell up and cause not to close properly do get the services for abc locksmith Sydney to avoid any further damage.

Get you basements checked

Basement floods are a major concern whenever there is major rainfall. Going downstairs and meeting with inches of water can be a nightmare. Even the little amount of water can cause heavy damage like electrical damage or mold and mildew. Do get it inspected by a professional and take safety measures before it becomes a major issue.

Be prepared for flood

In any case stay prepared for the worst case scenario. Prepare yourself for the flood, it is better safe than sorry if water does flood into your house unexpectedly. Take precautionary measures. Keep the mop in the reach and invest in some water vacuum if you suspect a flood. Keep electronics far away from the windows and keep the laptops and the tablets away, somewhere on the higher shelves.

Look for damage in the lawn

If there are any patches in the lawn fill them with sand and seed them to grow grass there so the water does not gathers and makes puddles all over you garden that will take weeks to clear.

Clean the HVAC filters

Clean up the HVAC filters for any water that got into them. Also clean out the air conditioning system. Both the outdoor and the indoor unit should be checked it is better to get it done by a professional because any damage can affect the efficiency of the system.

Even before the rainy season the precautions are necessary and all the services, repair and inquiries should also be done after the rainy season because there must have been some new cracks or mold and any leakage somewhere around the house. So it must be inspected properly even after the rains have stopped. Stay safe and keep the safety precautions in your head at all times so if there is an emergency you can take action immediately and save yourself and others of any big trouble. I hope these tips prove to be of help to you.
