Building a Garden Shed

If you have a large back garden or you even have an allotment, you will need a sturdy garden shed. Garden sheds are incredibly useful – they can house your garden equipment and tools, they are great for storing garden furniture and bikes, and they are even perfect for taking shelter should it rain and you fancy a cup of tea. But if you are thinking about building a garden shed, what tools do you need? To create the best garden shed, and before you jump on Google and put power tools hire in the search bar, read this useful blog. It outlines the top 5 tools you need for building a garden shed.

Firstly, have you created a solid base? Every good garden shed needs a flat surface to stand on. Make sure the area where your shed will sit is flat and dry. You can make a great base from sand and hard core. Or lay a base using some old patio or paving slabs. Sheds are expensive to buy. With the right preparations and care, your shed will last a long time. So, sit your shed on a solid base. Do not sit your shed on mud; mud and water will rot the wood.

If you are feeling creative you could build your garden shed or garden shelter from old wood, salvaged sheets of metal, or old pallets. If you choose to go down this route, you will need to consider circular saw hire, power tool kit hire, and even chain saw hire if you have old branches that could be crafted into beautiful planks of wood. With a little creativity and a rough plan, you can easily build a garden shed or shelter with different pieces of wood. This would give your garden shed a rustic feel.

Before you start to build your garden shed, talk to your friendly tool hire depot about some of the tools you will need – such as power tools, circular saw hire, and a hammer. They are best placed to advise you on the best tools for building a garden shed.

Most people opt to buy a garden shed that is delivered to their home or allotment for a small delivery charge. The shed is delivered in several flatpack pieces with instructions. If you choose to buy a flatpack shed, you will need to have prepared a good shed base before it arrives, then you will need to set aside a couple of hours to build it. Plus, you’ll need an extra pair of hands to help you hold pieces together whilst you grab your power tools and secure different sections with screws.

Power tools are essential if you are building a shed. Sheds require lots of screws so definitely hire a cordless screwdriver or even a nail gun. Electric screwdrivers are perfect because they enable you to screw and unscrew screws with ease and comfort. Call your local tool hire expert and talk to them about power tool hire kit, screwdriver hire, and nail gun hire. Tool hire depots are full of people that can offer DIY and tool hire advice. Plus, they can show you how to use power tools safely and efficiently. This is really useful. If you know how to get the best out of a tool, you will be more productive and you will be able to build your garden shed in no time at all.

If you would like to customise your shed and add a porch to it or extend the roof, consider circular saw hire. A circular saw will help you to cut different pieces of wood or metal to size and will enable you to create nice angles too.

If you are building your garden shed underneath a tree, you should consider removing large branches. Consider chain saw hire if you would like to remove large branches from above your shed. You do not want high winds to bring down branches and damage your garden shed. Also, if your garden shed has been built on an allotment, and the allotment is open to the elements, you could attach your shed to large posts. Using a post-hole driver or a large hammer, knock posts or long pieces of wood deep into the ground and use large screws and a cordless screwdriver to secure the shed to the posts. This will help keep your shed upright and stop strong, gale-force winds from potentially destroying your garden shed.

If you are considering power tool kit hire, rest assured that all power tools are manufactured to high standards. However, it is very important that you read all the instructions that are provided with the power tool or listen to advice offered by your local tool hire depot. If you are unsure of how to operate a power tool, ask for help. Tool hire experts are on hand to help customers find the right tools and offer guidance so that you can build the best garden shed safely, and be the envy of your neighbours.
