Use Bright Colors to Make a Room Look Bigger

Painting your room in bright colors can make it feel much more significant. Darker colors tend to produce the opposite effect, which is why this interior design trick works so well. You don’t have to go crazy with bright paint or spend a ton of money – just adding some color to one wall in an otherwise neutral room can make a big difference. This is especially true in small rooms, where bright colors can make the room feel like it goes on forever.

Large Mirrors Are a Space-Saver

Putting up large mirrors can help you use space in exciting and creative ways. For example, putting one above the fireplace in a living or family room creates an illusion of depth that looks amazing without taking up any floor space. Mirrors are also a great idea for smaller rooms that need a little extra light – you can get some from The Vault Sydney and put one on each wall to make the room feel twice as big.

Hang Your Pictures at Eye Level

It seems like such a simple thing, but hanging your pictures and other decor items at eye level will immediately make your room feel larger and more open. When hanging paintings on the wall, you can use this same tip – place them at eye level rather than above furniture or across from a doorway.

This is the single most excellent interior-design tip for maximizing space! Floor lamps are much more functional than table lamps, mainly because they have a more comprehensive range of light that you can control by simply moving them around. For example, you’ll need several table lamps to cover the same amount of ground as a one-floor lamp – making it an excellent choice if you’re looking for ways to save space.

You can also use floor lamps as unique home decor pieces by choosing unusual styles and colors.

Pick Furniture that Works for You

When picking furniture, think about what you need versus what you like. For example, if your living room only has enough seating for three people, but six people live in the house, you’re going to have a problem. Try choosing furniture with adaptable design elements, such as sofas and loveseats that can convert into sleeper sofas or futons.

This is the second-greatest interior design tip for maximizing space. When buying furniture, make sure it has multiple functions to use in different ways. For example, instead of buying a small coffee table and two end tables, try getting one large ottoman for seating or storage when necessary.

Create Unique Storage Spaces

One of the best ways to maximize space in your home is to create unique storage spaces that fit your needs perfectly. For example, installing deep drawers or cabinets under your bathroom sink can help you organize all of those bottles and products, so they don’t take up valuable counter space. Instead of hiding your storage spaces under the sink, try placing them in a cupboard or nook along one wall.

Take advantage of small spaces you never even realized could be storage spaces. For example, if you need extra space in your living room but don’t have a lot of floor space for an oversized ottoman, try hanging it from the wall and using it as an alternative to a coffee table. Hanging up storage cubes can accomplish the same thing – make sure you choose the right colors.

Having a laptop or tablet with you as you design can be beneficial. You can use this computer to look up color schemes and furniture options, along with tons of other ideas for maximizing your available space.

These are just some of the many ways that small spaces can feel more extensive and more functional – if you know what you’re doing and follow these simple interior design tips, your small space will feel like a giant, luxurious suite in no time.
