Eating disorders can affect anyone. They can range from severely restricting the amount of food a person eats to overeating or bingeing or avoiding certain foods. Often, these disorders develop as a reaction to a traumatic event, such as the death of a loved one. Symptoms of these diseases include a reduced sense of self-worth and an obsession with weight and appearance. Many times, these conditions can be so severe that they can interfere with social and occupational functioning. For a deeper understanding of working with people with eating disorders, consider specialist Mental Health Courses from a company like Tidal Training Mental Health Courses

Some eating disorders are more common in women than in men. They most often occur during adolescence and young adulthood, but they can also develop later in life. Symptoms of eating disorders can include tooth erosion, electrolyte imbalance, mood swings, fainting or sudden weight loss or gain. In severe cases, anorexia nervosa can be fatal and lead to starvation. Any such signs should never be ignored and specialist training can help identify symptoms of such conditions. Many such disorders are often misunderstood which can lead to a missed diagnosis or inappropriate help being given.
