If today you have looked at your lawn and you have noticed that its appearance is not very healthy, then you will have to take some other measures to make it look in all its splendor. Keep in mind that the appearance and condition of the lawn in spring and summer will depend a lot on the maintenance and care you have received during the previous season. Instant lawn is also an option to consider.

How to repair a bad lawn?

With the passage of time and depending on the use it is given, the lawn may show signs of exhaustion, lack of grass, subsidence, mounds and, of course, holes caused by kicking, animal digging, or the installation of some nailed element. These flaws can be remedied.

Fix blemishes on the lawn

Areas with a shortage of grass or bald spots. In areas that have been left a little poor grass or where there are many weeds, you must remove the topsoil, dig the soil well, add a fertilized substrate and level with the rest of the meadow. Next, it will be necessary to sow seeds of the variety that predominates in the lawn, cover them with the same substrate and water. If repair zones are extensive, it is more effective to buy turf sods, which can be installed at any time of the year, with the advantage that the effect is immediate.

Leveling sinks and mounds. If there is a hole, the piece of grass must be carefully lifted with a laya or similar tool, fill the hole with fertilized substrate mixed with river sand and compact the soil keeping the level with the rest of the land. Then, place the removed piece of grass or new sod, step on it a bit and add substrate on the edges so that it sticks earlier.

Plug holes. The holes in the grass cause the accumulation of rainwater or irrigation in these areas, with the consequent and more than possible development of fungal diseases and rots. For this reason, we must cover and repair these ravines as soon as possible. To do this, make a cross-cut in the hole area with the help of a hoe or garden shovel, lift the grass edges that form the cross with the same tool and fill the hole with fertilized soil. Then close the edges of the cross again and compress the entire floor and the area well. If the hole was very large, you may have to plant new seeds in the area or place a sod as in the previous case.

Recover the greenery of a yellow lawn. Poor watering, flooding, animal urine, or excessive heat can make your lawn yellow. The use in the spring of a fast-action fertilizer after mowing helps to recover the color of the lawn. If you add a second application of compost in the fall, the growth of the lawn in the following spring will start with much more vigor. If your water as often as necessary, especially in summer and avoid the use by animals that can urinate and damage the ground, the lawn would not have to yellow.
