How to wash an electric blanket with safely and properly

The blanket is a common household product that uses regularly. As a result, it becomes dirty. So, it needs to clean. To clean the blanket, you need to wash it. Washing a general blanket is easy. But nowadays, there is also an electric blanket. You can’t wash an electric blanket in a general way. Because an electric blanket consists of electrical heating wires or carbon fiber wires. So, when you wash your dirt blanket you need extra care.

You can wash your blanket in an old-fashioned (by hand) way and also in a modern way.  The old-fashioned way is a normal way like other cloth wash. But in a modern way, we will use machinery.

What needs to wash an electric blanket

Some equipment is needed to wash an electric blanket either wash by hand or machine. This equipment will help you to remove the stain and dirt. Here we will give you some essential equipment list below

  • Washing machine
  • Dryer
  • Lukewarm water
  • Detergent
  • Drying rack or clothesline
  • Mild laundry detergent
  • Bathtub or a big bucket

Necessary steps before washing an electric blanket

An electric blanket has a wire. And it has a power connection. So, if you don’t take proper steps then it can be dangerous for you. For safety purposes, firstly you have to off the power supply by unplugging the electric blanket wire. Then remove the removable wires that may be damaged by the detergent water. Do it carefully, otherwise, the wire may be damaged. Then take a plastic bucket or cloth bag and put them into it. Thus, you can put them together and later you can easily find them. Try to throw away the extra dirt that will help you to clean your blanket easily. Otherwise, you need more water and laundry detergent. And also, you have to do extra work which wastes your energy.

Wash an Electric Blanket by Hand

Sometimes we have to wash an electric blanket by hand for various reasons like your washing machine doesn’t work or you don’t have a washing machine or your washing machine doesn’t enough for your blanket. In this situation, you have to wash an electric blanket by hand.

First, take a big bucket and pour it with lukewarm water. Don’t pour it completely. If you don’t have a big bucket then you can use your tub. And it will be comfortable for you. You can easily move your hands and rub the blanket. Now take laundry detergent correct amount. Don’t use fabric softener or chlorine bleach that can damage your electric blanket wire. Because wires are spread through the whole blanket. So don’t use fabric softener or chlorine bleach. Now soak your blanket and now try to find the stain and rub them gently. If you don’t rub gently then the inside wires can be damage or tear. After removing all possible stains then again wash it with clean water. Then hang it for few minutes to release the water.

Wash an Electric Blanket by Washing Machine

A washing machine is more comfortable to wash an electric than washing by hand. If your washing machine size is enough for your electric blanket or your electric blanket isn’t big. For the high efficiency of the washing machine, you can use a clean towel that balances the load. Now select the temperature of the washing machine. More temperature can wrap the electrical wire or damage the interior ingredient. Now select the cycle setting at low. Then rinse the blanket for two or three minutes and take it out.

Dry Your Electric Blanket

To dry your electric blanket, you can use a clothesline. It is more useful it will remove the wrinkles from the electric blanket.

If you want to use a dry machine. You have to set its temperature low. Otherwise, your blanket wires will be a wrap.
