It seems like when the weather turns warm that all of the ticks and other insects come out of hibernation. If you enjoy time outside, it’s important to protect yourself and other members of the family from getting ticks on your body and your clothing. Pets are notorious for picking ticks up on the fur as they like to cling to the furry matter. Ticks carry diseases that can make you very ill or even cause death if left untreated. A common disease is Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.
When it comes to tick disease protection, an easy way to keep the pests off of you is to spray the body with bug spray. You want to find a spray that is safe for children as well so that they can be protected while they are playing. There is also spray for pets. Do a bit of research as there are some chemicals that aren’t good for keeping ticks and other bugs away even though they claim to be the best.
Ticks don’t like to be in the sun. Their bodies tend to get dried out very quickly. If you stay in the sun, then you should be able to avoid most of them while you’re outside. This is why they hide in darker places, like weeds and among trees. Another option is to allow as much sun into the yard as possible. Clear away brush and taller trees that are dying anyway so that there is plenty of sunlight. If ticks don’t have anywhere to hide, then they’ll find somewhere else to live.
Check and Double Check
As soon as you go back inside, check everyone’s clothing, hair and skin. Make sure that there are no ticks or other critters hiding out. If there are, they need to be removed as soon as possible. You also need to check your pets as they can carry ticks without you knowing until the ticks have grown to a large size.
Covering The Body
Even though it’s warm outside, you need to cover as much of the body as possible. If you’re going hiking, then put the legs of the pants inside the shoes to prevent ticks from getting on the skin. Long sleeves are good to wear if you are working outside. You might get a little warm while outside, but it can prevent tick bites that could lead to diseases that make you ill.
The best tick disease protection is by controlling their population. You can hire a professional like Mosquito Squad to do this for you. They use barrier sprays to kill adult ticks on contact and use tick tube placements to reinforce the spray to fight against recovering tick populations.
