The answer is yes… It is possible to have an ideal space that supports high productivity at home.

To create such space at home, you need to modify an existing space in your house to fit your work/ study requirements.

In this article, we will share some tips that will help you create work/study space that is efficient and pleasant for your work or study needs.

How to create an effective work / study space at home

1. Choose a work/study space

To make the most out of your work or study time, the very first thing you need to do is to select a dedicated work/ study space. This ensures that you don’t mix your work/ study life with your personal life. It also helps you focus, avoid distractions, and get you in a work/study mode.

Here are some of the work/ study space options you can have at home.

Space corner

If all you can do afford at the moment is a space at the corner of your house, then go for it! A corner space is the easiest work/ study space set up you can have in a home.

However, it comes with some caveats. You might have to deal with privacy issues, distractions, and noise if you don’t live alone.

Choose a separate room

If available, pick a separate room and transform it into dedicated work or study space. Choose a room or space where there are minimal distractions. That should be far away from the kitchen, TV and games room, or the laundry room.

Ensure the room is large enough to accommodate all your work or study material without getting cluttered easily.

Converted garage

A converted garage can be a great space for studying and doing business.

You can modify it into different set-ups and create enough space to fit your needs. The downside of converting your garage is you might require to spend a little time and resources to have a viable work or study space.

2.     Invest in your furniture

When choosing your furniture ensure that you have a good balance of comfort and productivity.

For example, you don’t want a chair or that is too comfortable that it induces sleep when working, or on the other hand, one that is hard enough to give you a sore back or pain when you sit down to work/ study.

A good desk should be one that comes between your rib cage and waist when sitted. And a good chair should be simple, comfortable and fits the height of your desk. This helps you avoid hunching over your computer and hanging off the chair uncomfortably.

3.     Get a wall or desk clock

Managing your time is one of the most important skills you’ll need to master when working or studying from home.

Treat your study or workroom to a beautiful wall or desk clock. When used for productivity, a clock provides a very easy way to help you stay on top of your time and get work done.

It is also necessary to detach yourself from your smartphone when working or studying. This allows you to focus whenever you sit down to work. You can also try turning on the airplane mode if you don’t want to turn it off for some reason.

4.     Organize

Having a tidy and efficient workspace is essential for optimal productivity.

A cluttered desk only distracts your mind and leaves you feeling messy and unmotivated.

To effectively organize your desk, remove any books, papers, sticky notes, and electrical equipment that are not relevant. Arrange and label every item based on their level of importance for easy reach- including your computer files.

You can also try getting a nice wall calendar that you can easily glance to when checking your scheduled dates and deadlines.

5.     Lighting and temperature

Concentrating can be much harder when it’s either too cold or too hot.

When creating a work or study space, ensure that the temperature in the space is ideal. You can do this by simply getting an AC or calling in an HVAC service provider (like Heating and Air Conditioning New Jersey) to install a good system for you.

Lighting is also an important aspect of good work or study space.

A poorly lit work or study space may strain your eyes and leave you feeling tired and with a headache.

To avoid this ensure that you have a small desk lamp and a larger overhead light to light your room. This reduces shadows and creates the right amount of light for your eyes. You can also ensure that the contrast of your screen is comfortable enough to look at for long hours.

If you are thinking of lighting your house naturally that is also fine. However, make sure the views outside don’t tempt you to peep out of the window constantly which affects your productivity.

Conclusion

To create a good workspace for optimum productivity at home takes some good amount of dedication and effort. But the advantages you get when you have a dedicated study or workspace and routine that works for you is totally worth it. Use these tips to come up with an ideal work or study space while working or studying remotely during this quarantine period.
