Garden DIY Jobs to do Over the Many May Bank Holidays

Jack Campbell May 17, 2023 Gardening Leave a Comment

There are plenty of bank holidays to enjoy in May and you know what that means – it is the perfect time to spend some time working around the home and do some of those DIY jobs that you might have been putting off!

At this time of the year in particular, it is good to do some work in the garden, as you can get it ready for the summer and spending time outdoors is always pleasant.

One of the most important things to keep an eye on in the garden is the fence. Bad weather in the winter can do damage to your fence, and you don’t want it to become weak or compromised. As well as being a garden boundary, a fence is also an important part of your home security. As well as stopping intruders from getting in, it can also stop pets and children from getting out and into danger, giving them a safe space to spend time outdoors.

Fence repairs are something that many of us need to do in the spring. It may be that you just need to do some minor repairs and some weather proofing, or you may need to do more extensive repairs or even replace the fence entirely!

When looking for the materials that you need, head to a specialist timber merchants like this Timber Merchants Portsmouth based company timbco.co.uk as they will tend to have a much wider range of materials than your average DIY store and are often less expensive.

As well as the fence, you might also want to try doing a bit of landscaping or garden design at this time of the year. Creating a patio area, adding some decking and tidying the garden up can really change it for the better and create a garden that you can be proud of and enjoy spending time in during the warmer weather.

Now is also a good time to start planting those bedding pants and hanging baskets, that will add a splash of colour to your garden. Check that the risk of frost is over of course, however if you cover the plants over on nights when frost is forecast then they should be fine.
