In order for our furniture to last longer, we will have to take care of them and protect them from the elements and dust that creeps everywhere. If you are dealing with antique furniture of precious wood, it is preferable not to use too aggressive products which, besides being harmful to humans, could damage the furniture irreparably. Do not be persuaded to use soda, or the pickling agent, but for a good cleaning of the furniture, just use soap and water. In the following steps you will find the right tips on how to clean your furniture with soap and water.
How to clean furniture with soap?
You will need:
- Basin
- Natural sponge
- Distilled water
- Marseille soap flakes
- Sponge cloth
- Broom brush
- Soft cloth
Step 1:
An always valid rule for cleaning your furniture is to also avoid the use of solid detergents in coarse dust and scouring pads or tea towels with a too rough surface. In fact, using this kind of thing you would risk scratching, leaving some incisions or marks on the table that you may have purchased in a very renowned antique shop. However, in order to clean a piece of a certain value from dust and dirt, the first thing to do is to dissolve Marseille soap.
Step 2:
Take a natural sponge and dip it in a bowl with warm water, preferably distilled, where you had previously dissolved a handful of flakes of Marseille soap. Then squeeze the sponge and gently pass it over the entire surface of the piece of furniture, without applying too much pressure so as not to ruin it, in this way, you will see that it will return to shine. It will be very important to always act with soft cloths and clean sponges, which you will rinse properly while doing this job, so you will be sure that you will not make the situation worse, staining or transferring color on your beloved furniture.
Step 3:
When you have rinsed properly, proceed to dry with a soft cloth, so you will avoid that water stains appear on the surface of the furniture. To clean straw chairs instead, remove the dust with a broom brush, or with a quick pass of vacuum cleaner kept at a safe distance, then clean with soapy water. At the end, you can rinse with plenty of running water and leave the chair in the air so as to allow the evaporation of residual liquids.
However as you may have read, the most important thing in addition to the type of detergent used, is undoubtedly the hand that you will put in cleaning. If you love your furniture so much and want it to always remain as beautiful as you bought it, after careful cleaning, you will have the satisfaction of being able to admire the results!
