The dishwasher is now present in almost all homes because it is comfortable and functional: who is it that wants to spend time in front of the sink full of dirty dishes? Furthermore, after spending a few hours in front of the stove, there is a need to relax at the table, lingering a few moments at the end of the meal. The dishwasher, however, although very useful, has the drawback of having to always be kept in perfect condition. This practical guide explains how do you get rid of bad smell in dishwasher. The methods are many and all effective, just follow some easy instructions.
How do you get rid of bad smell in dishwasher?
You will need:
- Lemon
- Sodium bicarbonate
- Citric acid powder
- Biological detergent for dishes
- Bleach
- Vinegar
Lemon
Try adding lemon peels during normal washing to eliminate any food odors and leave a pleasant scent on the dishes. Even better if you cut a lemon in half and leave it in the dishwasher before, during and after the cycle.
To get rid of the plastic smell that is felt when the dishwasher is new, try to leave the baskets and trays out in the sun: the solar heat will release the gases produced by the plastic coatings. Next, add a spoonful of baking soda to the dishwasher each time you load; baking soda absorbs odors when the plastic heats up during washing.
Vinegar
Before washing, pour 2 cups of vinegar into the dishwasher and let it sit for about 30 minutes before using the dishwasher. Instead of vinegar, you can use a glass of sugar-free lemonade.
Another method is the use of the organic detergent in powder to wash clothes: put 2 cups in the dishwasher and wash empty at maximum temperature for about ten minutes; then turn it off and let the hot water and detergent solution rest in the dishwasher for about 2 hours, then finish the cycle.
Citric acid
When the dishwasher is not in use, be sure to leave the door slightly open so that air can circulate inside. On the contrary, keeping the door closed would create humidity also caused by the dark, generating the bad smell. If the methods described above are not able to solve the problem, an infallible remedy can be used: the power of citric acid. In addition to eliminating bad odors, this substance can help remove the accumulation of calcium deposits in the dishwasher; just add a half cup and use the dishwasher as you normally would.
Bleach
It is possible to remove all bad odors from the dishwasher by doing a vacuum wash with simple running water added with a teaspoon of bleach. It is important to respect this dose without exceeding the use because the vapors caused by chlorine can penetrate deeply into the plastic impregnating the dishes. This system, like the previous ones, is absolutely effective and harmless and in addition to keeping the dishwasher always fragrant, it also prevents the formation of new bad smells.
Once a month it is advisable to wash with the empty dishwasher.
