The most important thing to keep in mind for a good filter cleaning is that NEVER use brushes, scouring pads or a similar tool to clean them, it is best to clean them with your hands.
First, put them in the sink or sink, I always use the bathtub for comfort, and you give it a rinse with hot water, against hotter better, and then you put soap on your hands and start rubbing them with the palms of your hands. In this article, we will show how to clean air conditioner filter.
If they are full of grease, because the kitchen is nearby for example, or any other sticky substance, do not hesitate to use products such as fat removers to dissolve the dirt, but do not forget that these products are corrosive and we cannot use our hands, so who wears gloves and leave them impregnated, rinse them and then wash them with soap and water.
How to clean air conditioner filter?
In heavier air systems like cassette and floor-ceiling only standard nylon models come. If the customer wants a more accurate filtering system, they should contact the manufacturer to request a special filter kit.
The filters used in air conditioning are used in compliance with the requirements established by the ABNT 16.401 / 2008 standard. In the manual, you can see what are the filters found in your device.
To disinfect the filters you can buy different specific products for this, but the most recommended and safest is to use bleach. It is more effective and cheaper than any other product and is not as dangerous for health (in case of contact with the skin).
To do good disinfection of your filters you need:
- An empty water bottle.
- A sprayer.
- Water.
- Bleach.
Now fill 1/4 of both the empty bottle and the sprayer with bleach and the remaining 3/4 with water. Once prepared you have to spray the filters and let them dry. Once dry, the filters are already disinfected, but now you have to disinfect the indoor unit so that the air that passes through it comes out completely clean.
To disinfect the indoor unit, take the bottle and pour the contents slowly into the radiator (with the filters removed). This operation allows the water with bleach to fall into the drain pan and disinfect it, as well as the drain itself.
Then, with the sprayer, spray the entire surface of the internal exchanger (radiator) to disinfect it completely. Once done, put the filters in place and let everything dry.
Then put the equipment into operation and you will notice how the air it throws has a certain smell of bleach, don’t worry, in a few minutes the smell will go away and there will be a smell of clean air.
With this simple operation, the entire indoor unit is completely disinfected.
Extra tips
Nylon filters for cleaning should be done every two months. HEPA and activated carbon filters need to be changed every 3 months.
Remember, an air conditioning system consumes more energy if the filters are full of dust.
Cleaning the filters of your air conditioning is the most important part to extend the life of your device and that it works in an optimal way.
It may seem silly, or it may even seem like a waste of time, but I can assure you that a large part of the breakdowns that air conditioning machines have today are due to lack of maintenance, and therefore lack of cleaning in the filters.
